Chapter Sixteen

The rest of the summer flew by without a glitch. Raye and I enjoyed ourselves, partying, hanging, and shopping most of our days.

The summer had come and gone and we were now half-way through the school year and we still hadn’t seen or heard from Nia but had been hearing from different people in the family that she had really hit rock bottom. Yep she’d done it this time. What was previously a dirty little secret that had been swept under the rug for a number of years was now on full display for the world to see.

Nia had been seen on numerous occasions wondering the streets and begging for money. She was really out there now and she couldn’t tell her ass from her head as Nana would often say.

The last I’d heard, she was staying in a run down, old abandoned building turned crack house on the other side of town. It was embarrassing to say the least and I hated when people came to tell us that they’d seen her because it was always followed by some sad ass story of how bad she looked and how we should try to reach out to her and help her get back on her feet. Shiiit they didn’t know our struggle. My grandparents were finally letting go and letting GOD when it came to her and I was happy for that. They’d been trying to save her ass for years and she didn’t want to be saved. Now all of the sudden her ass done aired out all of her dirty laundry and people are coming out of the woodworks trying to act like they care. It’s just like the bitches on the outside looking in; to always have a damn opinion. The only thing with that is that opinions were just like assholes, everyone had one.

I wasn’t bothered at all by the fact that we hadn’t seen her or that she’d alienated herself from not only my brother and I but the rest of the family as well because we were doing just fine without her.

Ty was growing up so fast and in spite of the condition that he was born in, he was now full of life and doing everything that he’s big enough to do. He’d gained weight and was now all plump and juicy, just like a baby should be. Still handsome as all outdoors and his body had finally caught up with his jabber jaws. He was happy and thriving just like a baby should be. We are a family and I was more than thankful for that.

Life is great…

School had started months ago and my grades were excellent, as usual. I was smart as hell and had the looks department on lock as well. I was getting finer by the minute and you couldn’t tell me nothing. Raye and I were always at the center of attention and the life of the party. We were like two peas in a pod and bitches couldn’t stand it.
